Riviera Spanish Revival

Built in 1927, in the years after the Santa Barbara earthquake reshaped the city in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, this house has changed hands only four times. It keeps its hand-painted ceiling beams, Malibu tile, iron grilles and a central courtyard with a tiled fountain.

A sensitive renovation completed in 2022 added a new kitchen with a plaster range hood and zellige tile, restored the steel casement windows and brought the systems up to date without disturbing the historic character. The living room has a carved stone fireplace and French doors to the terraced garden.

The full-acre lot steps down in terraces of lavender, olive and bougainvillea to a pool with a view over the city, the harbor and the islands. A separate one-bedroom casita sits beside the pool.
