Summerland Ocean Cottage

This 1938 cottage has been restored with the kind of patience that is rare in beach towns. The original fir floors and wavy-glass windows remain, while the kitchen, baths, wiring and foundation have all been rebuilt to current standards. A deep front porch looks over the rooftops of Summerland to the ocean and Lookout Park.

The main house holds two bedrooms, a living room with a wood-burning stove and a kitchen opening to a garden dining terrace. Above the garage, a permitted studio with its own bath works as a guest room, an office or a painting studio with north light.

From the front gate you can walk to the beach in six minutes, and to the cafés and antique shops on Lillie Avenue in three. Montecito's Coast Village Road is a five-minute drive.
